#WeLoveManuherekia Photography Competition
Our #WeLoveManuherekia photo competition that ran throughout February has wrapped up, and we're thrilled to announce John Wekking as our winner! His picture titled ‘Bridge to nowhere’ perfectly captured the beauty of Manuherekia, showing off its stunning scenery and the Manuherekia River.
We received heaps of awesome entries during the contest, each giving us a different view of what makes Manuherekia so special. From picturesque farm scenes to epic mountain shots, every photo reminded us why we love this place.
As we look back on all the photo entries, we're reminded of just how lucky we are to call Manuherekia home – each pic tells a story of love for the diverse beauty of our surroundings.
Huge congrats again to John Wekking for his winning shot and big thanks to everyone who joined in on the fun. The winning entry was chosen at random on 2 March, and the prize was a $100 Prezzy gift voucher.

Celebrating World Wetlands Day with Thomsons Catchment Project!
On 2 February, the Thomsons Catchment Project team organised an awesome field day to mark World Wetlands Day and the completion of phase one of their wetland project. It was a day of learning, fun and excitement as folks from all over came together to cheer on this big achievement.
The event was a blast! From picnics and ice cream to guided tours of the wetland and exciting giveaways that had the kids grinning from ear to ear, it was a celebration to remember. With the sun shining bright, it was the perfect day to explore the wetland and inspect the carex secta. A big thank you to Mayor Tim Cadogan and ORC Councillor Kevin Malcolm for joining in on the fun and kicking off the festivities. Their support meant a lot to everyone involved.
As Thomsons Catchment Project continues their amazing work, we can't wait to see what they do next!
Welcoming Clare Hadley as our new GM
We're excited to announce that Clare Hadley will be joining the Manuherekia Catchment Group as our new General Manager, starting 1 April.
Anna Gillespie, Co-Chair of MCG, expressed her enthusiasm about Clare's appointment. “We had some great candidates for the GM position, and the recruitment process was extensive,” she said. “We’re thrilled to have Clare join us, bringing her significant experience and mana to the role.”
At MCG, we have a vision for a thriving community united in creating a sustainable, healthy and balanced environment. Andrew Paterson, Co-Chair of MCG, emphasised our commitment to this vision, stating, “Clare will be a driving force to help us achieve our vision and will serve as an important central point of contact.”
Clare brings with her a wealth of leadership experience, having worked at Rangitikei District Council, Nelson City and Invercargill City Councils. Her passion for the area and dedication to community engagement are evident in her desire to connect with local residents and build meaningful relationships.
In Clare's own words, “I'm genuinely excited to move to the area and contribute to the important work being done by MCG. I look forward to learning, meeting people, and building connections. My time in local and unitary government has taught me that everything starts with getting to know one another and focusing on shared visions.”
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Clare as she begins her journey with us at MCG.
