On 28 November, the Waiora Manuherekia Project invites the agricultural community to a special event showcasing the latest in drone technology and its applications in farming and land management. Held at Becks Memorial Hall and on the neighbouring property of farmer Chris Pemberton, the event will bring together industry experts to discuss how drones are transforming agriculture, land management, and environmental conservation.
The event’s panel will feature Joshua Dunn, a leading drone operator from Overview.nz, a CAA Part 102 certified company based in Queenstown. Joshua and the Overview.nz team specialise in drone applications across challenging agricultural settings, including spot-spraying and seeding in wetlands, on slopes, and in sensitive environments. Equipped with advanced cameras, radar, and years of expertise, Joshua will discuss the benefits, pitfalls, and legal aspects of using drones in farming.
Other panelists include:
Sandra Campbell, South Otago farmer and MPI on-farm support team member, who has used drones for seeding native plants on marginal land with Joshua’s assistance.
James Rae of Cottesbrook Dairy in West Otago, who utilises XAG drones for precise fertilising and spraying on his dairy farm.
A live drone demonstration will follow, where attendees can see the technology in action and ask questions about its practical applications for improving farm efficiency.
